Embracing change in our world with R&D and strategic thinking.
Hello! I’m Tom and I am a freelance research consultant.
I offer bespoke research, development and support services to businesses and individuals who want to improve the way they work – through strategic thinking and the latest science and technology.
I also specialise in the mapping, measuring and analysis of the world around us in 2D and 3D. Since 2007, I have worked extensively with…
Airborne, terrestrial and mobile laser scanning
Satellite and aerial imagery (optical, multispectral, radar)
GIS and geospatial analysis
Having worked extensively in the exciting field of research, I founded Mount’s Bay Labs to play a role in improving how we embrace change in the world around us.
Change is inevitable, and detecting change is crucial. It is also vital we can ‘think on our feet’ to adjust course where necessary. This is where I might help you.
For over 15 years I have worked in research labs, at sea, in deep forest and on civil engineering sites. I have operated delicate equipment, performed cutting edge research and embraced the challenge of adaptive project management – often in hostile environments. Places where even the best plans cannot keep up with change.
As Mount’s Bay Labs, I am proud to draw on my experience to offer an informed perspective on analysing and embracing change through research, mapping and an exacting eye for detail.
My services include:
Research
Desk-based research with analysis of the latest published science
Field-based data capture – for example using LiDAR and drones
GIS, remote sensing and geospatial analysis

I work with clients of all sizes and in a variety of industries.
Nurturing close links with scientists and geospatial specialists in England, Scotland and Wales, I have developed an informal network of potential project partners in the public and private sector.
No two projects or clients are the same, and I pride myself on my multidisciplinary skillset. I offer a tailored service based on my experience, involvement and availability, with rates starting at as little as £40/hour.
